Africa Initiative
Building the Infrastructure for Diaspora Capital
17III's Africa Initiative began as a research and design effort to understand why diaspora capital consistently fails to reach African markets — and to build the architecture that changes that.
That work produced a clear thesis, a strategic framework, and ultimately a platform. 6Africa, developed in partnership with the Africa Investment Network, is the operating expression of everything this initiative has built
Why This, Why Now
Africa's development gap is not primarily a capital shortage. It is a routing problem. Diaspora remittance flows already exceed foreign direct investment in many African markets, yet that capital moves through informal channels, disconnected from the investable opportunities that exist.
The bottleneck is architecture: the absence of a trusted, structured platform that translates diaspora wealth from intention into investment. 17III was built to solve infrastructure problems like this one. The Africa Initiative is where that mandate meets its most urgent application.

HOW WE GOT HERE
Research & Framework
October 2024: Flagship Investment Framework Released
17III mapped Africa's $100B+ infrastructure gap across ten prioritized nations and five regions, producing a research framework that repositions infrastructure as an investable asset class — not a development project.
Nation Prioritization
10 Countries. 5 Regions. 1 Thesis.
High infrastructure deficits, strong growth trajectories, and stable regulatory environments. Our research identified where diaspora capital can move — and what it needs to get there.
Partnership Architecture
December 2025: AIN Partnership Formalized
17III partnered with the Africa Investment Network to build 6Africa. Our role: Platform Creator — strategic architecture, research infrastructure, governance. AIN's role: Convener — diaspora relationships, community trust, market reach.
Pipeline Development
2026: Research Becomes Infrastructure
6Africa launched as the operating marketplace — aggregating vetted opportunities across four capital channels (giving, investing, trading, consumer) and routing diaspora capital at scale. The initiative's research now has a permanent home.
WHAT 17III DOES IN THIS ECOSYSTEM
-
Ongoing country-level analysis across 10+ prioritized nations, tracking infrastructure opportunity by asset class, exit environment, and regulatory readiness, with a research dashboard that feeds directly into the 6Africa platform
-
17III designed the strategic framework, governance structure, and capital channel architecture that makes 6Africa function
Our role is Platform Creator: the operating system of the ecosystem, not the front-facing marketplace
-
Active pursuit of Memoranda of Understanding with finance ministries across target countries
Engagement with development finance institutions, African embassies, and multilateral funding sources
-
Building the network of diaspora organizations, event partners, and aligned platforms that give 6Africa reach and credibility
2026 conference presence across World Bank/IMF Week, Diaspora District Atlanta, Global Africa Summit (Toronto and Charlotte), Caribbean Economic Forum, and Ghana Trade Mission
OUR EXPERTS
The Africa Initiative is powered by a research and advisory bench with expertise across the disciplines the platform demands — investment research, blended finance, policy, and African market systems. These fellows and advisors are the analytical foundation behind both the original AIII framework and the ongoing intelligence infrastructure that drives 6Africa.
Our team includes:
Sally Nnamani
Strategic Advisor
Fatoumata Yattassaye

Mariam Khan
Impact Officer / Investment Research
This interdisciplinary team enables AIII to approach infrastructure not just as a financial asset class but also as a transformative tool for achieving long-term social, economic, and environmental impact.
The Platform Is Live. The Work Continues.
6Africa is open. The research that built it continues to deepen. And the ecosystem of diaspora investors, African governments, institutional partners, and aligned organizations is actively forming.
Whether your role is as an investor, a partner, a fellow, or a co-builder, there is a place for you in this infrastructure.
